Melle advises international and domestic clients in corporate and commercial disputes both in international arbitration proceedings (including ICC, SIAC and NAI) and in proceedings before Dutch state courts (courts of first instance and courts of appeal). Melle has also worked for the Corporate practice group of Loyens & Loeff, where he gained ample experience on corporate law transactions (M&A), shareholders’ and joint venture agreements and general corporate advice to companies and their stakeholders.
Melle is recognized by the Legal500 as “key lawyer” of the firm's arbitration practice.
Work highlights include representing:
- The former majority shareholders of Yukos Oil in the enforcement of the arbitral awards rendered against the Russian Federation for claims amounting to over USD 50 billion in relation to the unlawful expropriation of their investment in Yukos Oil.
- The Republic of India in annulment proceedings before the Dutch state courts regarding an adverse (partial) arbitral award (UNCITRAL) in an investor-state dispute.
- A Latin American state-owned company in proceedings before the Dutch state courts involving the enforcement of a USD 1.5 billion ICSID Award rendered against the Latin American State.
- An state-owned joint-venture oil and gas company in a dispute with a subcontractor relating to a construction project.
