On 25 June 2020 the Court of Justice issued a judgment with a significant impact on the development of wind farms in the Flemish Region of Belgium (Case C-24/19, A e.a. The court maintained its strict interpretation of the EU rules on the duty to carry out an environmental assessment, and held that certain rules for onshore wind turbines in the Flemish Region should have been preceded by such an assessment.
