Mick Knops, tax adviser, specializes in the taxation of the energy and infrastructure sectors. His practice is fully dedicated to this sector, ranging from upstream E&P and mining to renewables and utilities.
He is a recognised authority on Dutch energy tax (energiebelasting), CO₂ and environmental levies, and mining levies under the Dutch Mining Act, including the State Profit Share. He also advises on the application of the Energy Tax Directive and other EU legislation affecting the energy sector, including EU windfall taxes such as the EU solidarity contribution.
Mick acts for leading utilities, public-sector entities, and energy companies on high-impact advisory and contentious matters, including audits, disputes with the Dutch tax authorities and litigation concerning energy taxation and related levies, at both a Dutch and EU level.
Mick is the author of Dutch Mining Levies, a comprehensive work on Dutch taxes applicable to, among others, the oil and gas industry. He is a permanent contributor to Vakstudie Nieuws and FED (weekly tax case law journals) and to NDFR (an online tax commentary on Dutch tax legislation). He also regularly publishes in academic tax literature.
Mick was based in Loyens & Loeff's New York office in 2018 and 2019.
