Michael will continue to lead our Financial Regulatory practice, providing clients with strategic regulatory and corporate governance advice. He regularly advises banks, insurers, fintechs, asset managers, and other financial sector participants on regulatory compliance, licensing, governance, and on-site inspections. Michael is also frequently asked to advise on the issue of senior management and board liability.
Prior to joining Loyens & Loeff, Michael was a member of the Executive Committee of a major international bank regulated by the European Central Bank where he led a team with accountability for all legal matters in Continental Europe. Leveraging that experience and his commercial mindset, he has driven strong growth in the Financial Regulatory practice, providing unique insights and preparing clients for regulatory change and crisis management.
Anne-Marie Nicolas, Partner, Banking & Finance, commented: “This appointment reflects our strong commitment to clients which are navigating increased regulatory complexity. This is a critical part of our wider Banking and Finance practice.”
Michael Schweiger added: “The team has a great combination of skills and, rather uniquely, each member also has extensive in-house experience in financial institutions and insurers. Our deep understanding of our clients’ businesses enables us to provide strategic advice and it is very rewarding to help clients achieve their goals.”
