The Data Protection & Privacy team is excited to wish all its readers happy Data Privacy Day 2019!

January 28 marks the day that the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data was signed in 1981.

Out with the old, in with the new: Belgian Privacy Commission becomes “Belgian Data Protection Authority”

Since 2006, January 28 is the day on which the Unites States, Canada and countries throughout Europe (including all our four home markets) celebrate Data Privacy Day each year by raising awareness on data privacy rights and practices.

Today, making data protection an indispensable part of your company’s business strategy is not only advisable from a compliance perspective, but doing so is in fact an opportunity to distinguish your company by attaining a competitive edge. Here at Loyens & Loeff, we are ever ready to support our clients in achieving and maintaining that competitive advantage as well as an adequate level of compliance through a full range of relevant legal and compliance services that we offer.

With so many changes occurring within the privacy ecosystem including the speculations concerning the e-Privacy Regulation, the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the increasing GDPR cases, it is undoubtedly going to be another significant year within the world of privacy. We are excited to keep our readers fully up to date through our regular newsflashes and hope to welcome you to our upcoming events!
