Kris De Schutter

Kris is a member of Loyens & Loeff’s Employment & Benefits Practice Group in Belgium. He is the co-chair of the Financial Institutions Team in Belgium. He obtained a.o. significant experience in restructuring and change processes and in alternative remuneration.
Kris has extensive experience in employment and labour law, especially in relation to incentive schemes: He has been advising clients on a daily basis to limit costs by implementing alternative remuneration schemes in all sectors, including the financial and insurance sector.
He also has a significant and broad experience in assisting and representing multinational companies during restructurings (including plant closures and collective dismissals). For instance, representing Belgian companies, he intensively negotiated social plans with unions with impact on several hundreds of employees. This experience enables him to advise on legal and strategic industrial relations issues.
He also regularly assists clients with respect to the recruitment and the dismissal of top managers, both in a national and international context. In general, he advises clients in relation to day to day employment law and pleads regularly before the labour courts.
Finally, Kris is interested in CSR (‘If you are only a lawyer and not a human being, life will be full of lost opportunities’) and he advises several ‘social-economic’ companies.
Kris is a frequently asked guest speaker at conferences in relation to employment and labour law topics. He is the author of several articles on dismissal, restructuring, strikes and other employment law topics.
He is mentioned as expert in his field by Legal 500 EMEA.
Kris has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2003. He is also a member of EELA (European Employment Lawyer Association).
He holds a Law degree from Universiteit Antwerpen (Belgium, 2003).
