Decree on modernisation of Flemish inheritance and gift tax

The decree in which the Flemish legislator modernises the Flemish inheritance and gift tax has been published in the Official Gazette of 20 July 2018. In line with the renewed federal inheritance law, the reformed Flemish inheritance and gift tax legislation will enter into force as from 1 September 2018.

Decreet modernisering erf- en schenkbelasting

The modernisation has two main goals:
1. Lowering the inheritance tax by introducing lower inheritance tax rates and new exemptions; and
2. Alignment of the Flemish inheritance tax with the new federal inheritance law.
