Investment funds subject to the law of 13 February 2007 on specialized investment funds (the SIF Law) have proven to be a highly successful alternative investment vehicle. Combining Luxembourg’s extensive know-how in fund regulation with the ability to invest in alternative assets, SIFs have been at the forefront of regulated alternative investment vehicles globally. Taking an approach similar to the approach adopted by the EU Directive 2011/61/EU on Alternative Investment Fund Managers (the AIFM Directive), SIFs are ideally placed as the first alternative investment vehicles which accommodate the notions of the AIFM Directive.
