As an attorney, Lut Sommerijns has over 20 years' experience advising corporate and sector pension funds and social partners as well as pan-European pension funds and groups of multinational companies with cross-border pension operations and risk poolings. Over the past three years, she has broadened her expertise as an attorney by assisting pension funds and social partners in developing new legislation and in other than legal aspects of pension fund management in her capacity as Secretary-General of the Belgian Association of Pension Institutions.

A much sought-after speaker at national and international conferences on occupational pensions, Lut Sommerijns regularly publishes articles on the subject as well. She also lectures on pension law and antidiscrimination law at KULeuven (Catholic University of Leuven). Sommerijns is an active member of a number of professional organisations, including the Human Resources Committee of AmCham – of which she was vice-chairwoman for several years – and the International Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyers Association (IPEBLA).
